The Ala Moana Hotel condo in Honolulu is an old favorite for many locals. You are walking distance to Ala Moana Beach Park and adjacent to Ala Moana Center and its 300+ shops and restaurants. There is no reason to rent a car while staying here. The best part is that if it is just a second home, while you are not using it, it can generate income in the hotel pool. The hotel is in great demand especially in light of its many meeting rooms, banquet services and its close proximity to the Hawaii Convention Center. With its condo conversion less than 10 years ago, the building has received a much-needed facelift. The vast majority of units are still used for hotel use and most are managed by Outrigger a growing player in hotel management in the Pacific Rim region. The look is contemporary and the remodeled amenities offer a high level of comfort. But it is the location that many people love.
The Ilikai Apartment building is the iconic three winged building with the turquoise blue touches that sits at the Ala Moana Boulevard entrance to Waikiki. The dream of Chinn Ho, the condo is an enduring landmark. This is one of the very few truly oceanfront fee simple condos along the south shore of Oahu. The building has interesting views. From some vantage points, the view is out over the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon out passed the sandy beach and to the ocean. This view also has the famous Friday evening fireworks display. Other units have views out over the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, the Hawaii Yacht Club and towards the sunset. Also, it is just a short stroll to Ala Moana Beach Park. Still an easy distance from Ala Moana Center and many other shops and restaurants.
Several floors including 3 of the uppermost floors have been completely rebuilt. These units are priced at a premium since they have all new electrical and plumbing. The units are wonderfully finished.
Of course you can also enjoy the bar, common areas, and Cinnamon's restaurant.
It is common to see units being put into a hotel rental pool, but many Ilikai apartments also have long term residents that love the location and the active lifestyle both of these buildings offer. The units can be rented nightly. The apartments do not come with parking, however parking is available close by and in the building.
The Ilikai and Hawaii Five-0: A Television Phenomenon Premiering in 1968, "Hawaii Five-0" quickly became a staple of American television, captivating audiences with its breathtaking Hawaiian scenery, compelling storylines, and unforgettable characters. The show followed the adventures of an elite state police unit led by Detective Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord. The series was so popular that it ran for 12 seasons, and its legacy lives on with a modern reboot that began airing in 2010.
The Iconic Opening Scene (opening credits) of "Hawaii Five-0" were an essential part of the show's allure, showcasing the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands while setting the stage for the thrilling episodes to follow. The Ilikai Apartment Building played a starring role in these credits, as it was featured in the show's iconic opening scene. As the camera panned across the beautiful Waikiki landscape, it would zoom in on the Ilikai's rooftop, where Jack Lord, as Steve McGarrett, would be standing, gazing out at the horizon. This stunning shot, with the ocean and Diamond Head in the background, would then be followed by the show's unforgettable theme music, creating an indelible connection between the Ilikai and "Hawaii Five-0."
Nextdoor to the Ilikai is the Ilikai Marina .
Anaha epitomizes luxury condominium living, completed in October 2017, and stands as the second building completed in the upscale Ward Village area, following the construction of the Waiea tower.
The development encompasses two distinct structures:
The central tower comprises eight units on each floor, offering a variety of one, two, and three-bedroom configurations. With ceiling heights extending to 9ft (and 10ft for the penthouse floors), the building exudes a sense of spaciousness. A distinct architectural element is its unique curving facets that alternate every four floors, bringing about slight variations in the interior dimensions and layout of units within the same stack. The tower is serviced by four elevators, with two situated at the front and the other two at the rear, enhancing accessibility. Additionally, residents have access to a service elevator and a trash chute located between the sets of elevators, contributing to a sense of privacy and reduced traffic.
The Podium extends from the second to the third floor, featuring two-story 'Townhomes' with the entry on the third floor, leading to the living area and bedrooms on the second floor. The fourth to sixth floors house a blend of studio, one, and two-bedroom residences. Atop this section lies a part of Anaha's amenity deck. Although there's a modest lobby and one elevator within the Podium, residents here can also access the elevators in the main tower. The ground level of the Podium is dedicated to commercial use, hosting an array of renowned restaurants and retail outlets in a captivating ambiance.
Additional Highlights: Amenity Deck: Nestled on the seventh floor, the expansive amenity deck exudes a luxurious and welcoming aura. Parking Facility: The parking area is integrated within the main tower, with designated spaces for residents spanning from the second to the sixth floor. Additionally, 19 guest stalls are available, managed via a valet service. Architectural Prowess: The aesthetic and functional design of Anaha is the brainchild of Chicago's Solomon Cordwell Buenz, in collaboration with Honolulu's Ben Woo Architects, blending architectural expertise and local insight.

Nauru Tower condominium is perhaps the most striking example of urban architecture in the Honolulu urban landscape. A single glass tower that is a half cylinder rising over Ala Moana Beach Park. People continually remark on its appearance. This luxury condo has been voted the best condominium in Honolulu, Hawaii several times. The building management take a great deal of pride in serving the residents and making them feel truly at home. The location is outstanding as it is easy to get to anywhere in Honolulu via Ala Moana Blvd. It is also within walking distance to hundreds of shops and restaurants at Ala Moana Center and Ward Center.
The building was completed in 1990. Each floor is roughly divided into 8 units. The penthouse levels have fewer units per floor and are also more spacious. Unit '01 faces towards Honolulu Harbor and the airport. There is some view obstruction from surrounding buildings. This unit also faces towards the mountains. The unit wraps around one end of the cylinder. Then units'02, '03, '04, '05, 06 and '07 face the ocean and over Ala Moana Beach Park. The least obstructed views are the '03, '04 and '05 units. Also, the unit does not have to be very high to have an ocean view. Unit '08 faces Diamond Head. There is still ocean view, but the bedrooms face the mountains. Many residents like this side of the building because it is cooler. The Penthouse levels start on the 33rd floor. However the most supreme penthouses are on the 43rd and 44th floor. These are 3 levels with plenty of outdoor lanai space.
The amenities are on the 7th floor and can be accesses by a glass covered bridge. The pool and barbecue areas are spread out over a park like setting on top of the parking garage. It is wonderfully maintained. Unfortunately there is no fitness room which is something many people really want.
The biggest upside to the Nauru is being in Kakaako and having unobstructed views of the ocean. The down sides may be that the floor plans can be a little awkward and it is a little dated. Some units have been completely remodeled from the original plan. If location is important, this is one of the best spots. Certainly the Nauru Tower is more affordable than the higher end luxury Kakaako condos being built in the area.
PROs: Outstanding ocean views, close to shopping and restaurants. close to the beach
CONs: sometimes awkward floor plans, dated interiors, no fitness room.

The Waikiki Landmark condo building is emerging from its tumultuous past. This Waikiki condo quite a history, but in the past few years, they have upgraded some things in the building significantly and has a bright future. The beautiful pools on the pool deck were unheated for many years and now it has a heater. The furniture has been upgraded with lounging furniture and cabanas so residents can enjoy the shade. The new resident manager has overseen this upgrade of the recreation deck kitchen. It looks fantastic. The addition of a concierge desk at the front door makes the building much more inviting. The Association of Apartment owners have added a big gym in 2019.
The reality is that the building was built it was planned to be a high-end ultra luxury studio suite. Now we are the beneficiaries. This is a beautiful condominium and made with some of the best materials. Many floors only have 3 units per floor which make sure you have privacy and quiet from your neighbors. Floors are thick and windows are designed to keep the loud city noises out. Floor plans have a great expanse of windows which are so unlike the traditional boxy design. It all feels much more luxurious and well planned. The Waikiki Landmark condominium building is a true gem in Honolulu.
The Waikiki Landmark project came to live around the time of the Japanese real estate bubble in the 1990’s. The initial developer was the former owner of Honolulu Bank, Sukamoto Sia. Lenders foreclosed on the project however and the new owner paid pennies on the dollar. The condo units were sold as leasehold. In 2003 the fee was made available for sale. Not everyone bought the fee, so a few units are still (as of 2013) in leasehold.
The very modern building design was well ahead of it’s time, and even today the Waikiki Landmark architecture continues to stand out and looks very modern. You can spot this unique building from far away.
The building has a number of commercial units.

The original developer had planned to create a luxury high-end hotel with spacious suites and used construction techniques and finishing materials that were far higher quality that what was required for the project. As a result of changes in the market, the final development saw the project change into a luxury condominium. The towers container studios along with one and two-bedroom units and the bridge across the top contain the penthouse units. The penthouse levels enjoy their own exclusive keyed elevator and the penthouses vary greatly in size but there are many units that are in excess of 4000 square feet of interior.
There is ample security on site. There are several security guards on duty at all times, numerous cameras throughout the complex and nearly ever door requires a coded fob to enter making the Waikiki Landmark one of the most secure buildings in Honolulu.
